CYO SERVICE DESCRIPTIONS

RONALD McDONALD HOUSE BREAKFASTS

Groups of approximately 10 7th and 8th graders travel to Ronald McDonald House in University City to cook Sunday breakfast for the families staying there.  Information will go home through school and PREP.  Sign up is a must and additional parent drivers are needed.  Each volunteer will be assigned a portion of the meal to bring.

 LEAF RAKING PROJECT for parish homebound

Volunteers are asked to help rake leaves for people in the parish who need help with fall clean-up.  Flyers will go home through school and PREP.  Parents needed to lead groups.

 VILLA BINGO

Come assist and play bingo on a Tuesday evening with the residents of St. Joseph ’s Villa in Flourtown.  Parent drivers needed.

 OPERATION SANTA CLAUS

Starts with the beginning of Advent.  Volunteers decorate the Jesse trees in church with gift tags for Operation Santa Claus.  Two Sundays later, gifts are gathered and sorted.  Some gifts are sent downtown for the archdiocesan Operation Santa Claus effort.  Some gifts are delivered locally through St. Vincent DePaul Society.  Some gifts are delivered by CYO youth to St. Malachy parish in North Philadelphia .  Parents always welcome to help.

 AID FOR FRIENDS

The first Sunday of Lent, join us in Father Fitzpatrick Hall, following the 9:30 CYO Mass to prepare meatless meals(appropriate for Fridays in Lent) for Aid for Friends.  All food will be provided, parents always welcome.

  ST. JOHN ’S HOSPICE CASSEROLE PROJECT

Join us in Father Fitzpatrick Hall for an hour on the morning of Martin Luther King Day to assemble casseroles for the homeless men of St. John’s Hospice.  Sign up is a must as all volunteers will be assigned ingredients to bring.  Flyers will go home through school and PREP.  Parents always welcome.

 CARNATION FLOWER SALE

On Mother’s Day weekend, volunteers sell carnations after each Mass to benefit Our Lady’s House, Cradle of Hope and Parish Right to Life organizations.

Our very exciting Jr. CYO is in need of some helping hands to join our Board of Directors and a few supporting roles as well: Assistant Athletic Director, Dance Co-Chairperson, Villa Volunteer Leader, CYO Glory moderator, Dorney Park Trip Coordinator.

 CYO Registration

Membership in CYO is required in order to participate in CYO activities. 7th and 8th Graders please bring a small picture of yourself for your Dance Card or your school issued id.

Congratulations St. Luke Girls Field Hockey Team!!!!!!!!!!! 
The 8th grade team finished their perfect season October 28, 2007 (PERFECTLY)!!! They beat Visitation 1-0 to become the first team in St. Luke's history to get to the Championship game and to WIN!!!!! 
In addition to winning (as if that isn't enough), they are the 1st team in Region 21 history (9 years) to end their season with no goals scored against them during the league regular season and throughout the playoffs. Once again, Congratulations Girls!!! 
Team members: Anna, Brenda, Carly, Catie, Claire, Devon, Emily, Jenny, Kathleen, Kelly, Madeleine, Maureen, Nicole, Nicole and Sarah. What a group!!!! What an accomplishment!!! 
After the Championship game Eileen Dugan and Alli Waters played with Emily, Brenda, Claire, Sarah, Nicole, Madeleine, Devon and Maureen in the All Star Game. Congratulations!

Activities

Our CYO offers the following activities for students in grades 5-8: Villa Volunteers, Cooking for St. John's Hospice, Aid for Friends, Cooking for the Shut-Ins, Ronald McDonald House, Rebuilding Together Philadelphia, Collections for National Disaster Relief Programs, Mother’s Day Carnations Sale, Operation Santa Claus, Cultural Arts Festival, Variety Show, One Act Play, Forensics Team, Dorney Park Trip, Awards Banquet, Dances Gr. 7–8, Haunted Hay Ride Gr. 5–6, Pizza Party Social for Gr.5-6.

St Luke CYO Sports Teams include: Field Hockey, Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Track, Softball, & Baseball.

Congratulations! To the boys Junior Varsity “A” Basketball Team. The team of Jerry Amodei, Gabe Dwyer, Stephen DiCicco, Kyle Donahue, Riley Slusarski, Tim O’Neill, Joe Sobolewski and Dan Nedbal successfully went undefeated in the regular season and won the Region 10 Championship Game. Great Job!! (Spring 2007)
