St. Luke the Evangelist Church is located at Easton Road and Fairhill Avenue in Glenside, Pennsylvania. The parish
includes some communities in Montgomery County, just north of the city of
Philadelphia. The parish is part of the Archdiocese of Philadelp
hia.
It celebrated its centennial year in 2005.

Haiti News: We have heard from our sister parish in Haiti. The damage did not reach there! Refugees from Port-au-Prince have been arriving in their area - the central plateau. The parish is located in Los Palis, near Hinche, some miles to the northeast of Port-au-Prince.
At church we had collections for disaster relief in Haiti on the weekends of January 16 & 17 and January 23 & 24. The funds went to Catholic Relief Services. CRS is now at work in Haiti. www.crs.org.
We are planning some fundraising events for our sister parish:
Benefit Dinner - February 23 - tickets on sale at the rectory beginning Monday, February 8
We also plan to have a sale
of Haitian crafts in
April (tentatively scheduled for April 24 & 25). This will benefit Haiti in
two ways: the craftspeople will receive payment and the profits from the sale
will go to our sister parish. We are continuing the collection
of tabs from
aluminum cans—the collections jars are in church.

With
these words, holy
priests for a holy people,
I am pleased to announce the observance of the Year
of the Priest the
Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Our
Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, has called for this year of grace for the whole
Church as a new opportunity for priests to grow in holiness and live more fully
united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and for all the members of the Church to
recall the essential role of priests among us and in society.
As
Archbishop of Philadelphia, I invite everyone in the Archdiocese, all priests
and all the faithful, in solidarity with our Holy Father, to observe the Year
of the Priest as
a splendid opportunity to reflect on the gift of the priesthood of Jesus shared
with his priests. This gift belongs to the whole Church and is for the whole
Church. I ask of you, sharers and benefactors of this gift from Jesus, to
participate wholeheartedly in this Year
of the Priest here
in Philadelphia.
May
our observance of this Year of the Priest truly provide the Archdiocese of
Philadelphia with holy
priests for a holy people!
