Since 1997 we have had a Sister Parish in Haiti:

Notre-Dame de la Presentation in Los-Palis in the Diocese of Hinche.

Fr. Guy Casseus, the pastor of our sister parish in Haiti, visited the weekend of October 14 & 15, 2006.

Part of Fr. Guy's homily:

In our Christian life in general, especially in our family life, we have big challenges. Sometimes we wonder how to deal with them, because they seem almost impossible. We forget that our god is the God of impossible things. In my parish we also have big challenges. One of them, is the children who are excluded from the welfare of education because there are no public schools for children in the mountains. Many of them need to walk more than one hour and a half to reach the closest elementary public school. Because of our belief in education as a way to have good Christians and good citizens, we have an elementary school in each of our six missions with around three hundred children per school. After elementary school the children have to go to high school. But unfortunately, the closest elementary school is twelve miles from the children. Not only it is far but it is also expensive for the poor people. Therefore, since last year, we rented a small building to start a high school with the first two classes with 72 children. Each year we will have one more class. This building is too small to fit all the children. Through your help we started to build the school. Because of lack of money, we are building it in two parts. We need forty-two thousand dollars to buiid the first, four classrooms and forty thousand for the other part. How big is the challenge for our poor parishioners who do not have enough food to eat! We rely upon God's providence, and we believe that our God is rhe God of impossible things.

As Jesus gives us himself everyday, every Sunday in the Eucharist, he will give each of us what we need to live closer to him. Let us ask Mary for this grace, the grace of the gift of self, the grace of giving our liberty to Jesus, her Son, the Son of God himself, now and forever and ever (Amen).
